But not every toy in his production line is so friendly.Īpparently, the company that made the Tattletail toys (which the developers would go on to name themselves after) had a previous product called Mama Tattletail, which was mysteriously taken out of stores and banned. Though he does practically nothing to help us in our adventure, being more of an inconvenience as we have to periodically feed, brush and charge him, he seems to be on our side. But honestly, Tattletail is more endearing than creepy. Every night when we wake up to go find him, he’s somewhere different, and it’s a little off-putting, to say the least. In true Furby fashion, our little Tattletail toy seems to have a mind of his own, talking completely on it’s own and appearing in random locations without our assistance. The self-activation can probably be explained by the toy’s sound, light and motion sensors, but I haven’t been able to find a reason why people are saying this happened without batteries, and honestly, I’d rather not think about it.īut going back to Tattletail, he developers had some good material to take inspiration from. What made it worse was the number of people who claimed that their Furbies would activate on their own, even without batteries in them. They were strange furry beings that looked like crosses between an owl and an alien. Sneaking down to the basement, we find our gift, a Furby-esque electronic animal toy called “Baby Talking Tattletail”.įurbies, being popular in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, were absolutely horrifying in design. This first person survival horror was created by Waygetter Electronics in 2016, and in it, we play as a small child in 1998, counting down the days until Christmas, and we decide to take an early peek at what our parents bought for our Christmas present. So what better game to throw back to than Tattletail? It’s a niche subgenre, but in movies and gaming, it has proven to have an audience, likely due to the sheer duality of a festive, warm-spirited holiday turned dark. Since this site pretty frequently talks about indie horror games, I figured it would be a good idea to explore the world of Christmas-themed horror.
